Docrafts Monday: 1960 mixed media layout

A short and sweet blog from me today. if you want to join in with Docrafts Monday just upload a project on to your Facebook wall or the /official Docrafts Facebook page with the hash tag #docraftsmonday in the post.

Here is a layout I made a while back but haven't shared  yet.  I used the Papermania Madame Payraud's collection. Love this range and will need to add to my collection.
I used the textured card stock to stamp out the date using the carnival stamp and dies from Xcut.

The bobbin is from the sew lovely range and I just wrapped twine around it. In case you've noticed the misting sprays tutorial will be published next week as I have used some Creativity Club exclusive projects and are just waiting for them to go live first.

Want it Win it Wednesday and Layout

I won some Curiosity Corner papers off the Trimcraft website last week and decided to share this layout. www.Trimcraft.com hold a weekly competition where you leave a comment about what product you would like to win.

this is an old photo of my mum on holiday at Tenby, she was around 10 years old. I found the papers matched the muted tones perfectly.

I created a pocket to find the journaling, I like to add interactive elements when possible as it makes it a bit more fun. I created the tag by cutting out one of the shapes printed on the paper itself, I added a tab and stamped pull on to it. to make the pocket I taped around the tag so it wouldn't fall inside.

I have been experimenting with heat embossing and will share some techniques in my next tutorial.

I made my own enamel dots by following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BTOK8Quu4k&list=UU-0Fom6RbIdvZIrbzRa4moQ. heat the oven first and melt the beads at 220 degrees for 12 minutes it varies depending on what beads you are using but I could only get this to work with pony beads.

Here are a list of products I used in case you want to go shopping

The Memory Nest April Challenge Crystal's Sketch

The challenge for this week is to use the sketch below with one of the phases. I choose 'Enjoy the little things' as it fits in with the nature theme. if you would like to join us and have a chance to win some goodies then look no further www.thememorynest.blogspot.co.uk. Share your projects and the team will leave some comments on your blog too.

I used a combination of Dear Lizzy with Papermania Spots and Stripe Bright's papers and embellishments. I found the colours livened up the photo which was taken on an overcast day. I just love to use lots of different colours and I just happen to have accumulated a lot of this range  of papers.

I always try to group my page elements in groups of 3 or 5 as this is the most easy on the eye, something to do with the way our brain works means that certain patterns are more appealing then others. I am no brain scientist but if it looks pretty i'm sticking it on.
These little chip board buttons are great to use if you want to add one to the page with out it being to bulky,  if your die-cut letters don't show up to well, you can try carefully drawing around the letters with a fine pen or shade around them for a more artistic effect.

I created a petal boarder using the new Xcut A5 flower die-set, I folded them in the centre to make them stand out more. I found this helped the photo blend in a bit better.

I look forward to seeing all your creations.

Docrafts Monday

Happy Easter everyone and now its nearly over and we've eaten too much chocolate. I have a nautical themed card for you. just to remind you that summer is around the corner.

I dusted off the Ahoy There stamps I've had since last summer and found that they worked well with this weeks club downloads. which you can find here www.docrafts.com.

ideally the screw brads from the Chronology range would also work well with this project but I didn't have any so the shimmer dome stickers were used instead. looks like I have another excuse to go shopping. here is the product code for the brads PMA 353201.

to make this card you first need to cover a square card blank with the textures monotone down loadable papers.

using the circle nesting dies from Xcut. place the second largest over the largest sized die cut. secure to cutting board with craft tape. cut the main frame out of blue textured card stock and then cut out a smaller one using the blue tone textured papers. you should now have to circle frames.

using a boat stamp, stamp image in centre of card and the stamp some waves at the bottom before colouring In with Artiste pens.

adhere the first frame over the stamped image leaving enough space to place the smaller frame in the centre. adhere the smaller frame using 3d foam dots and decorate with gold shimmer dots for rivets.

stamp out a banner and sentiment on to scrap paper and cut it out. adhere over the portal with 3d foam pads

 You will need:

Crafty creations 15

This week I am sharing with you a CAS card or Clean and Simple. its not something I have mastered yet I mean how do you know when it is finished? why not upload your latest project to www.thememorynest.blogspot.co.uk and we will leave you some lovely comments.
it started off as an A6 card blank which I rounded the corners on. Then I used a honeycomb stencil mask from That Special Touch to add the background. I then used some stamps I got free off card making magazine. for the focal point I took a Big bloom from the Papermania Sew Lovely rang and glued a bow to the centre. the bow is made from bakers twine and I finished it off with a button.

The Memory Nest Kellie's Sketch Challenge April

Its challenge time and that means there is another sketch available this week. the twist for this challenge is to do something which is out of your comfort zone. so i chose to use mixed media elements on my layout.

i tend to avoid mixed media as i usually end up with a huge mess and cant seem to get the cool effects i've seen on the other blogs.  Practice makes perfect so i will keep trying until it works.

If you would like to play along then link up here www.thememorynest.blogspot.co.uk
i used modeling paste with a mask to add texture to my layout only it went every where but the page. my first attempt involved using paint but it didn't show up so i covered it with misting spray first which added a splatter effect to the page.

When using misting sprays its a good idea to cover up everything you don't want covered in ink.

save the negatives from your alphabet stickers and cut them out for extra letters.

Docrafts Monday

It another Monday and another #docraftsmonday over at the Docrafts official Facebook page.

I shaped the card using the Extra-Large Square Parenthesis nesting dies form Xcut. I the covered it with the Easter digital papers available in the  Creativity Club. I particularly like the chevrons on this one and so I decided every thing had to be purple to match.
The flower is a Big Bloom I spritz with Violet Spritzing ink but I will talk about how you can use the inks to colour coordinate things at a later date.

to make the flower I just took 3 big blooms and stuck them together. I then decorated the centre with a button and a bow, with a pearl in the centre because I like them and stick them on everything.

The sentiment was stamped onto a die-cut shape and its from the Bellisima range, I used the Dusky /rose ink pad from Artiste to keep in with the colour theme.
